On a sweltering hot summer's day, few things are as satisfying as an ice cold, alcohol free beer served in a glass fresh from the freezer. Of course beer has been around for much longer than freezers, so it hasn't always been served that way.

Beer is believed to be the oldest alcoholic drink that mankind has produced. The earliest examples of beer have been found through traces dating back 13,000 years that were found at the Raqefet Cave in modern day Israel. Beer is produced by fermenting grains, most commonly malted barley, combined with hops to add bitterness and other flavors.

The word beer comes from old Germanic languages, and derivatives can be found in many languages. In Spain and Portugal, the word for beer evolved from the Latin word cervisia.

In 2020, the most popular beer in the USA was reported to be Bud Light.

Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.
