Tortoises are an amazing animal. Did you know they have been around for over 200 million years! That is longer than many other types of animals. Tortoises can live a very long time and some can live for over 100 years. The oldest known tortoise is said to have lived for over 170 years. Tortoises can live almost anywhere. The shell of a tortoise has 60 bones. We can tell how hot the country was that a tortoise comes from by the color of its shell. A very light color shell means the tortoise comes from a very hot country.
