Groundhog Day is an unusual North American tradition. That probably shouldn't be a surprise as a vital part of Groundhog Day is a Groundhog and these large rodents are found exclusively in the USA and Canada.
If you've never seen the film Groundhog Day, it's quite possible this dictation exercise will be the first that you've ever heard of this event.
If that is the case and you enjoy watching films in English to help your understanding, do try and watch the film starring Bill Murray and Andie Mcdowell. I personally watch it every year on Groundhog Day itself.

Listen to the complete text from start to finish.
Groundhog Day is observed in the United States and Canada on February 2nd. According to popular folklore, if it is cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will not see its shadow, signifying that spring will arrive early. If it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, thus signifying that winter will continue for six more weeks. Sadly, studies have found no consistent correlation between a groundhog seeing its shadow and the subsequent arrival time of spring-like weather.
Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.
