Who doesn't enjoy a good joke? Quite possibly the person who created what is believed to be the first documented example of a joke. I'll let you listen to the dictation to hear that joke.
A word of warning, don't expect to be laughing hysterically after hearing the joke. It's not the funniest thing I've heard this century.
Actually it's not even the funniest thing I've heard in the last two minutes.
- with wildly uncontrolled emotion.E.g. I started laughing hysterically

Listen to the complete text from start to finish.
The oldest surviving joke was found by historians written on an ancient tablet. It was written in Sumeria between 2,300 and 1,900 BC. Apparently the joke was translated as "Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart on her husband's lap". It was probably funnier in ancient Sumeria.
Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.
