Who wouldn't want a time machine? Surely it would be fantastic, having the ability to travel back through time and witness great historic events. Or would it? This short dictation also ponders the potential downsides of time travel.
Do you recognize the car in the image above? Of course, it's a time machine.
The DeLorean used by Marty Mcfly and Doc to travel through time in the classic film, Back to the Future. If you've not seen this film and the sequels, they're a fun way to practice your English listening.
You're listening to Joanna
She has an American accent and expects you to use American spelling.
Listen to the complete text from start to finish.
When I was a child I used to think that if I had had a time machine, it would have been a great way to help me with my homework! I could have chosen a time to go back to and seen first hand how people lived their lives. I am sure this would have helped me in my history exams!
Although, thinking about it, perhaps there are many parts of history I would not like to have experienced first hand. I think I would miss not having access to the Internet and of course the food might not have been so good as it is today and there was certainly more illness and danger. So maybe it is better to learn history from books in the comfort of my modern home!
Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.
