In fact there is some debate over which song should be acclaimed as the first successful rap release, but this dictation sides with the majority.

While rap is a popular music genre today, back in the 1970s, few people had heard of this type of music. While there are various claims about who released the first recorded rap song, Rappers Delight is widely regarded as the first one. Recorded and released by The Sugarhill Gang in 1979, it became a top 40 hit in the USA and reached number one in Canada.
