This dictation uses the text of an imagined email from one person to a friend, inviting them to attend a birthday party in the park.
- the anniversary of the day on which a person was born, typically treated as an occasion for celebration and the giving of gifts.E.g. his twenty-ninth birthday
Before you do the dictation, did you know that in Vietnam, everyone celebrates their birthday on the same day?
You're listening to Joanna
She has an American accent and expects you to use American spelling.
Listen to the complete text from start to finish.
It's my birthday next week! I am going to have a party next Saturday afternoon and I would like you to come. This year I thought we could have a party in the park. Bring the family and we will have a picnic. We can eat and play games and it will be a fun afternoon. Will you bring your dog? I will bring my dog and they can play together. I know they love running around together. It will be a great day for animals and humans!
I look forward to seeing you in the park next Saturday afternoon! We'll be by the big trees!
See you then!
Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.

Did you notice that the writer said "bring the family"? It may sound strange, but sometimes "the" is substituted for "your". So it was the same as saying "bring your family"
