While I appreciate that many people dream of launching into space, it's really not something that appeals to me. Does the thought of racing into space on what is basically a large firework appeal to you.
Of course, the Space Shuttle was a bit more than just a large firework, being the first space craft from earth designed to be able to fly into space on multiple missions.
It sounds like a great concept, but the dictation may show it wasn't the most successful of space projects.

Listen to the complete text from start to finish.
The Space Shuttle was a design of space craft produced in the USA and first launched in 1981. Unlike all previous space craft, the shuttle was designed to be reused many times. This was intended to reduce costs and make space flight a more routine matter. However, the complexity made the program hugely expensive. Up to 2012, $211 billion was spent on 135 launches. Sadly, two of those launches ended in disaster with the loss of 14 astronauts in total. However, the Space Shuttles did play a big part in the construction of the International Space Station.
Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.
