Being British, summer usually meant about two and half days of sun over the course of three months. That's one of the main reasons we moved to Spain some years ago.
I always assumed everyone loves the summer, but a few years ago I did some work for someone in the USA. They used to live in California, but had moved to Vermont because they love the winter.
Am I the only one who thinks they're crazy?
- the warmest season of the year, in the northern hemisphere from June to August and in the southern hemisphere from December to February.E.g. this plant flowers in late summer
- spend the summer in a particular place.E.g. well over 100 birds summered there in 1976
- a horizontal bearing beam, especially one supporting joists or rafters.
Well, how about that? Looking at the definition above, I had no idea the word summer could also be applied to a load bearing beam.

Listen to the complete text from start to finish.
I love summer, as the weather is nice and warm! I like summer because I can swim in the sea, and go to the park with my friends. I wear my sunglasses and sunhat, and eat ice cream all the time. Summer is my favorite time of the year! Do you like summer?
Now listen to the slower version and type what you hear into the text box.
