The idea started in 1937 when a young Californian couple? were offered 25 cents to sell a cake pan that? they were throwing between themselves on a beach.? As the pan only cost five cents,? they saw a business opportunity.? More than ten years later,? the first manufactured frisbee was sold,? though that name only came into common use? a decade later.

This meant that a lot of land was newly fenced off? and riders wishing to follow packs of hounds? being used to hunt foxes now had to jump fences.? Originally, show jumping events took place in the country,? but because spectators could not follow and watch,? it become more common to build courses of fences? for events that spectators could watch.

Extreme ironing is a combination? of ironing and extreme sports.? Extreme ironing is the act of ironing clothes while? skydiving, bungee jumping, hang gliding, paragliding,? rock climbing, base jumping or scuba diving.?

People who take part in extreme ironing will try to? find new and exciting places to do some ironing.? For example, in 2003, three extreme ironing? participants ironed the Union Jack flag,? just above the Everest base station.?

Highlining is an extreme sport that combines? tightrope walking and slacklining.? Highlining is tightrope walking across a highline,? which is similar to a slackline,? but much higher off the ground.?

Highliners don’t use poles for balance, but they do? use harnesses and ropes as they walk across highlines.? Highlining is practiced all over the world,? with lines set up between tall buildings and cliffs.

Wingsuit flying is an extreme sport? that combines skydiving and flying.? A wingsuit is a jumpsuit with fabric? between the legs and under the arms.? The fabric between the legs and along? the side of the body is extended into? a wing-like shape and this gives the wingsuit its name.?

The wings have airpockets which give? the pilot more control over their flying.? The wingsuit allows a skydiver to? glide through the air, much like a flying squirrel.
